This morning, on CBS’ Face the Nation, Republican Iowa Senator Joni Ernst joined the discussion to talk about the recent protests to enforce stricter gun laws.

Interviewer Margaret Brennan started by asking,

…I want to ask you because you are one of the top 10 recipients of NRA funding in the Senate. Your image was being held up by some of those protesters at the rally here in Washington yesterday. I wonder how you are responding to these young activists who are calling for gun control.

Ernst Responded with,

…I want to push back on that because I myself don’t receive funding from outside organizations other than what those smaller donations that might come from PACs. Many outside organizations will run advertisements without the consent of candidates. They’ll run advertisements for candidates against candidates I have no control over that. My campaign has no control over that —

Ernst must have terrible memory loss, if this is what she truly believes. Because in an October 4, 2017, article from the New York Times, it was shown that Joni Ernst received over three million dollars in funding from the NRA. This is almost ten times more than the PAC donations she’s received (363,036), and almost one million more than the “small” donations she receives from individuals (2.6 million).

No accountability for campaign contributions. No honesty from someone who is in the top ten for campaign contributions from the NRA. And apparently no awareness that statements like that can be fact checked fairly easily.

If these politicians are going to go full Rubio, then we need to find new politicians to represent the people and not the highest bidder.
